These syllabi are from courses I taught at Brown University and Northern Illinois University from 2004–2012. The undergraduate courses begin with contemporary problems or, in the case of ancient and medieval political theory, tragedy, in order to introduce students to the problems we will be confronting over the rest of the semester. Since these courses develop critical thinking and writing skills, assessment is almost entirely through essay. The bulk of each undergraduate syllabus consists of course expectations and study questions.
